i'm a mexican wrestler

hi.

it's been a while since i've posted. a lot has happened the past few weeks with work, wedding prepping, catching up with old friends, yadayada. still feel like i have ton of stuff to do :( sigh...

anyway. my boss bought these mexican wrestling masks from san francisco and brought them to work to share with our motion graphics team. they're GREAT. the second i saw them, i yelled, "nacho libre!!!" and yes. my coworker jen and i tried them on and had some fun taking pictures...

follow the hedgehog

a fun little project that i got to work on for about a week. a friend at work has two kids: a little boy and a little girl. he came up with an idea to get them to brush their teeth, get them to dress up, etc by using illustrations of a character doing the actions. when his kids would do what the character is doing, he would put a sticker underneath the drawing as a reward. i did the illustrations during breaks at work and here they are:

cigarette break

i felt like this at work today...

...minus the tattoo on the arm, the cigarette, and the hair. but i felt like going on a cigarette break. instead, i played mario kart because my coworker and i brought in game cube and controllers 'cause we're cool like that.

truth: i want to get a tattoo. of what? not sure but i want something like this.

oh, and be merry! my sister is pregnant! :)

album cover art

a musician friend at work needed an illustrator for his album cover and i offered to do the illustration. he wanted a broken heart that looked like smoke. here's the result:

i drew the heart with a red colored pencil on black construction paper, scanned it into the computer, drew the white smoke and touched it up on photoshop. this is not the final album cover. just the illustration. will he use this? maybe, maybe not. but i had fun with it.

this is another album cover that i worked on for new london fire's "Happiness Through Radios and Wires" album. it was released on july 27, 2010.

the photograph was provided by new london fire. they wanted it to look like a child drew on it. i printed the picture out on regular A4 paper and used crayons to scribble on it. i did a couple, and they chose this one.

pigs in a blanket...

...is what i cooked for my sister's friend's bridal shower! that's right, people. i COOKED. or i guess it's more appropriate to say that i BAKED. what what. so i know this isn't animation or illustration, but food is art and i made this piece of delicious art. my sister was so proud of me.

what i saw on my bus ride home

the other day, i saw an old man (i think he was a homeless guy) get off the bus and walk towards this big bald guy standing by the bus stop. he then patted the bald guy's head, laughing. the bald guy just stared at him and the homeless guy walked away, still laughing and glancing back at the bald guy. i died.

films since 2006

1. dwell time (2009)

my nyu senior thesis animated short.
a young lady meets an old lady with an umbrella. the title of this short comes from the subway term "dwell time," which means the amount of time a train spends in the station with its doors open.
i was inspired to make this little film after hearing a true incident that happened to a good friend of mine in hong kong.


2. waiting (2008)

my first stop motion film.
about waiting for someone or something that you've dearly missed and relishing in the moment you see that special someone or something.

3. billo (2008)

based on the story written by grace aechjay jung.
how i would cope with loss--sleep and dream.
this guy won the national board of review of motion pictures student grant award.


4. i want my jelly (2007)

an animated short i made in my sophomore year in college.
about an angry customer and a pissed of waiter. and a pb&j sandwich.
music by james lee.


5. the egg (2006)

my first animated film in nyu.
what is this film about? not quite sure but all i know is that it's a self-portrait.
paper animation + pencil animation + some playing around with lights.

korean gangsters (a.k.a. ggangpaes)

i think there is always a group of ggangpaes that show up at some point in almost every korean movie. main characters or side characters. doesn't matter. maybe some time in the future i'll dedicate a whole animated short to ggangpaes..
